You wouldn’t believe me even if you knew me that I would even attempt such a title to attract you off the beaten path. You don’t even have to purchase anything here nor sell anything here ; the doors are open for you to visit. If you drove by here you would probably only blink and wonder as to whether it’s a little shop or store. This place is not a fancy trendy green environmentally conscious busy consumer traffic kinda addresses. Maybe it’s not your favorite corridor into the nation’s capital but it’s one of the corridors in terms of needed development and economic growth. Why would I write about a place in an area of town where there’s very little pedestrian traffic. Anyway, Oh about a year ago I thought I would take a walk to sort of get to know my surroundings. I ended up on the avenue, the place where one time perhaps the shops were bustling with business. I was told by a passerby that, yes, there are businesses here along with many storefront worship churches. It seemed as though if you were to count them that almost every other building was one of these little storefront churches.  I guess real estate is real estate. Anyway, one Sunday morning not long ago I thought I would visit one of those churches. First, I must admit to you that  I could only imagine that I would equally visit each place for about fifteen minutes, just to evaluate the atmosphere. However, this method did not seem the right thing to do.  This formula disappeared as I approached the crosswalk. I  could here all sorts of clapping and singing and they were having a good old time in the building on the corner which had been a restaurant. I continued to walk down the street about fifty seconds away  where I ran into  two ladies who greeted me and I said hello. We began  a conversation which I mentioned that I was  trying to find a place of worship to attend. It seemed difficult for me to choose so the two ladies summoned me to attend their worship service. So I did!  I followed them  inside and to my surprise it reminded me of the church I attended when I was little. There I sat among approximately sixteen worshipers including the Pastor, women, and children. I had come full circle with my existence or history. They were all smiles and hugs and the music seem to elevate as if they were waiting for me to show up. I’m sure you can remember a time when you had returned home after being away. The only thing that was missing was the smell of all the food and desserts that had been prepared. I see now that you understand where I had ventured that day. After five Sundays, a cold and snowy Tuesday in the District of Columbia, what a great story to share with you about a storefront church I found off the beaten path!  I perfectly understand that you’re quite busy at the moment but…see what you can do with your schedule! Mr. President, Abundant Life- Church of God In Christ welcomes you! Oh! I forgot to give you the address to Stop by Here!   It’s 2373 Rhode Island Avenue NE 20018  -11 am on Sundays !  www.abundantlifecogicdc.org  By the way, you’re invited also, even if you’re not the President.

I have this positive energy that’s difficult to explain and it has to do with the fact that America  has changed the course of history.  I felt it would happen in my lifetime but I didn’t know  that I would feel this way.  I am quite happy, somewhat overwhelmed about this new environment that’s ripe for discussion, dialogue, creativity, and community both here in the United States and abroad.  What a great teaching moment for the masses! America has a chance once again to architect a more healthier nation  built not on fear but on strength.  We are challenged to achieve and succeed against a struggling economy, cultural divisions, and a negative global persona.  The message is that we as Americans can do something about our family ,community, environmental ,and global outlook.  Perhaps the word is euphoric, nevertheless it’s America’s season to shine again. It will not happen just overnight and it will take a lot of hard work and sacrifice but we can and we will make this a better place. America’s greatest asset is its values, spirit, and diversity of cultures.  I challenge you to get involved in bringing about exponential change through service in our communities.

We have all been there, almost there… well the part where the flight attendant gives you the safety instructions, you know ,where the emergency doors are and how to  use the drop down oxygen mask and the floatation device.  But most of  us were not there for the 3:31 miracle in the water event on the Hudson! I can imagine the adrenaline rush, the- this is not happening moment, where for just a few seconds everything  seems hopeless.  Turbulence is enough to say the least. Anyway, everything that unfolded this past afternoon was in place and as a result aligned to bring about a more than sigh of relief, how about a moment to reflect upon the thing that we all sometimes take for granted our life.  This time we’re all left with something to rejoice  to jump up and down about.  Yes, Hollywood couldn’t have directed such an ending.  This was big , enormous.   There are miracles that happen in our lives and all around  us. Effortlessly , we may only have to stop and look around us to experience it! I ‘m quite happy for all those folks and I hope you feel the same.   We simply have so much to be thankful for every second of the day! see ya soon…

the inauguration

January 13, 2009

Despite all the dire things that are going on there’s some excitement in the air.  We (americans) are on the verge of making history.  I’m excited for our nation and what it says about how we all have developed both socially and politically. We will take on the left over agenda of the Bush administration which has left us all with much to do. I sincerely do hope that each and everyone of us despite our racial, cultural, economical, social , political, religious,  environmenta l, and educational status that we so possess will do our individual part in helping our nation and our President transition in a healthy way!

I don’t know about you but I’m so inclined and willing to turn a little more greener this year in terms of  using less of the utilities around the house. I will expand my garden to include all sorts of vegetables, take more walks and activites that will keep the cost of health care down, and help my fellow neighbors whenever i can .  What are some of your personal do’s for the year that can and will help both nationally and globally. In addition there’s much to ponder and reflect upon regarding the climate of violence in the neighborhoods across our nation and the global wars that seem to linger and escalate throughout the world.  Is there a solution? Can there be peace? What role does economics play into all this? Where are you emotionally and physically?  I notice that the word personal growth has popped up in the media in the past year! I keep trying to find a lighter topic or subject to talk about but this is perhaps where we are cognitively speaking! I promise to leave the word dire alone for now. I will meditate and pray and do all those things I can think positively.  Don’t forget that we have something to celebrate about in approximately eight days! I welcome comments and discussions.  I hope that if you find my blog worth passing along to others that you will do so.  Oh! I have a “Free Goals Report” for you over at my website www.findingyourzenith.com   see ya soon….

So what do you think? Are you sitting on the seat of your paints, got your pant down at half mass or you’re actually beginning to tighten your belts! Whatever you choose to do just take a deep breath and start to acquire all the knowledge on becoming your own “change agent.”  Just for starters, there’s absolutely nothing negative about this unless you have problems with change. See, you can’t get around it or away from it. Change is happening at an enormous rate. You probably have experienced it and definitely you have noticed it in the last two weeks, if not,t hree months!  I had planned on deleting this blog just hours ago but I thought about the fact that we’re in dire situations, especially on the economic front here and abroad.  What are your new year goals, plans, or resolutions if I may ask? Don’t look for health care cost do go down anytime soon. Better yet, find all the ways you can to keep yourself and your family and your friends healthy!  Here ‘s a  few tips: Try yoga even if it’s your first time, meditate ,yes, get away from the immediate dire thinking for a moment, start group walking tours , start bartering when possible, and rip all the coupons you can from those newspapers and on-line coupon sites. I have become addicted to the news media, especially CNN.  The best thing you can do this year starting today is to refrain from watching any of those folks. Twitter if you have too. It just might be healthier. I’m sure you have a few recommendations for our dire world so drop me a comment if you like…  Remember the new mantra today and repeat after me ” we are evolving“.  See, that’s a little more positive and natural!  Whata yuuothink?
